Ng halik ng kamalasan
Ginapang mong marahan

Para lamang makidlatan
Sa kaitaas-taasan, ngunit

Huwag kang magpapasindak
Kaibigan,
Easy lang sa iyak
Dahil wala ring mangyayari
Tayo'y walang mapapala
Wag mong pigilan ang

May panahon para maging hari
May panahon para madapa
Dahil ang buhay natin

Umaaraw, umuulan
Umaaraw, umuulan
Ang buhay ay sadyang ganyan
Umaaraw, umuulan

nakakaawa si coach Siot......
after nang game humihingi sya
ng pasensya sa mga fans nung
papunta na sya sa sasakyan nya.
we just had to say na wala
syang kasalan....... he must
feel all the burden of this
loss..... pati si Chris Porter.
Ginebra fans were shouting his
name when he came out to the
parking lot..... poor guy he
really gave his everything...
but they have nothing to feel
sorry about....... Thanks coach.
Thanks Chris........ (he cut his
message short sa txt)
atty percy:
here we go again with
another one of our "For
the record" posts.
For the record, since coach
Siot assumed the head coach
postion of BGK midway the
2004 Reinforced Conference
(he started the season as Jong
Uichico's assistant along with
Art de la Cruz), coach Siot has
guided the team to two championships.
Two championships out of four
conferences is an outstanding record.
As the architect of BGK's last
two conference championships
(back to back and in his first
two conferences as head coach),
coach Siot deserves a lot of
credit for BGK's recent successes,
as I am giving him now in tribute
to his coaching record even if I
am not admittedly a fan of the team.
It is just that in basketball
there is a truism that "you can't
win them all." And championships
per se or the lack of one, does
not necessarily mean success or
failure of a campaign. From where
I am seated, Siot did a masterful
job in leading BGK to a scintillating
seminfinal series, even though the
end result is not what the legion
of fans expected.
And the 2005-06 season is not
over yet. There is still the
All-Filipino (of which BGK is the
defending champions) to look
forward to. And in a way tama
si pareng Magnorrific (as I read
in the Shoutbox). Regardless of
the outcome of the game for
third place against Air 21,
BGK has fared so much better
than fancied teams like
Talk N Text, Alaska, San Miguel,
Sta. Lucia, and Coca Cola.
In any event, congratulations
coach Bethune Tanquincen for a
job well done, especially when
the pressure to win is somuch
more considering the team's
popularity among this country's
basketball fans.
eto..super agree ako dito:
kuya kobe posted dis autopsy.
Ginebra Post Mortem
With the defeat to Red Bull,
Ginebra's First Conference
campaign has ended. Here's my
season review to Ginebra.
Pre-Season Status
Ginebra, for all its talent
had one main weakness in its
lineup before the start of the
season. It doesn't have a
reliable SF. Alternating for
the Gins at SF are streaky
Sunday Salvacion, who has one
excellent game for every four
games played, and Rodney Santos
who is in actuality a SG.
While Santos is an excellent
player, he's undersized at SF
against teams.
In addition, Ginebra's C/PF
position is iffy with Adducul
and oft-injured Seigle available
at the start. PF Eric Menk only
played several games into the
season as his ban was lifted
by the PBA. Despite the return
of Menk, he and Adducul, still
needed a third big body to
help the team.
Free Agency
With the "disbandment" of
Shell, the Gins acquired Paul
Kalani Ferreira and C Erwin
Sotto from Shell. The very
versatile Kalani plays three
positions, PG, SG, and SF.
Unfortunately, shortly after
acquiring Ferreira, Ginebra
re-signed free agent guard
Aris Dimaunahan effectively
taking away Ferreira's primary
position. With SG already held
by Mark Caguioa and Rodney Santos,
that left SF as Ferreira's
remaining position.
Surprisingly though, Ginebra
drafted SF Holper, then later
on signed TNT draftee Mark Macapagal.
With Sunday Salvacion another SF
in BGK's lineup, the remainder
of Ferreira's minutes vanished,
In the case of Sotto on the
other hand, he's a player whose
name does not inspire fear nor
admiration to fans and opponents
alike.
Rookie Draft
In what could be one of the
shockers of the draft, Ginebra
drafted Mike Holper to be their
future at SF. While Holper has
the height (6'6) and the
athleticism to be a good SF in
the league, a shooting forward
that cannot shoot will not help
the team much. And unfortunately,
that is Holper's main weakness.
He cannot shoot from the 3 and
when left open from even the
long range 2 areas, he still
cannot deliver.
Given the fact that Red Bull's
two SFs draftees Leo Najorda
and Larry Fonacier were still
available when Holper was
drafted, Ginebra's draft grade
suffers even more.
Najorda instantly provided a
spark off the bench during the
start of the season for Red
Bull, but it is Larry Fonacier,
the ex-King Eagle who surprised
in the Semi-Finals. Either would
have been perfect for Ginebra
with their polished offense and
good defense (especially in the
case of Fonacier).
Ginebra's First Conference Campaign
Ginebra had problems with
PF Menk still out due to
suspension. However, once
Menk returned, the team had a
lot of success with import
Sean Lampley who plays SF
and joined C Rommel Adducul
in the frontline of Ginebra.
Lampley was a perfect fit
because his presence overcame
Ginebra's deficiency at SF.
However, Lampley got injured
and the team suffered as a result.
Ginebra managed to enter
the semifinals with the help
of talented import Chris Porter.
Porter is an excellent import,
but unfortunately, he plays C/PF,
the same positions Eric Menk and
Rommel Adducul. Whereas Lampley
covers Ginebra's hole at SF,
Porter re-exposes the Gins hole
at SF as Salvacion, Holper,
Macapagal and Santos alternate
to make the Gins competetive.
In the semi-finals, Red Bull's
Yeng Guiao managed to outcoach
Siot Tanquincen. First he
neutralized Ginebra's backcourt
advantage by consistently pressing
Ginebra's ballhandlers into trouble.
This reduced the time Ginebra's PG
would have left to set the team's plays.
Second, he also made it a point
not to leave open Ginebra's three
point shooters. This resulted in
making Ginebra's 3 point offense
suffer more.
Third, he used to his team's
advantage Ginebra's inability
to use Porter, Adducul and Menk
all at the same time. Without
Ginebra's top three frontcourt
players playing together, Ginebra
was at a disadvantage.
(IMO, Siot should have
experimented using a Menk,
Adducul, Porter offense with
Menk and Porter drawing outside
whoever Villanueva or Penny is
guarding. Having all three
together, results in a less
capable inside defense for Red
Bull and opens up Ginebra's
inside forays more. On offense,
it is know that Porter is a SF
in the States, thus he wouldn't
adjust too much in playing the
position instead of PF/C.)
Finally, in the crucial Game
7's waning minutes, while Red
Bull played with end game poise,
while Ginebra relied too much on
solo one on one forays that
ended in failure.
Things to Be Done for the
All Filipino
Ginebra barely improved this
season with the acquisition
of Holper, Macapagal, Sotto
and Ferreira. All the other
teams (with the exception of
San Miguel) markedly improved
their lineup with TNT acquiring
Washington and Cardona, Red
Bull getting Fonacier and
Najorda, Alaska getting TDLC
and Alvarez, Coke getting
Mamaril, Air21 getting KG,
Purefoods getting Jondan
Salvador, Sta Lucia getting
Cabagnot,
Ginebra basically went,
"If it ain't wrong, don't fix it."
Well they certainly did not fix
their team and it resulted in a
Semi-Finals departure.
Ginebra still needs a SF. Holper
can provide the defense in the
All Filipino but not the offense.
Salvacion and Macapagal can
provide the offense, but
unfortunately, none of the
defense. Santos is their best
SF, and he plays SG best.
Ginebra also needs a big
player to sub for Menk and
Adducul. With Seigle out for
the season (he's usually out anyway),
the Gins need to acquire a big
guy capable of being effective
while one of the two big guys
are resting.
haaaai.. =(
