Bal David retires
http://www.journal.com.ph/news.asp?pid=2&s...ay=20&year=2005
BAL David, one of the best point guards ever to don the Ginebra
jersey, is leaving basketball with a heavy heart.
Oh yes, the man called as "The Flash" is reportedly calling it quits
after his unhealthy condition prevented him to join his mother team,
prompting the illustrious member of Batch '96 to hang up his jersey.
A reliable source told People's Tonight that David has not been in
good condition ever since he injured his knee.
Sidelined for over a yea now, the 5-9 guard has even failed to join
the team's practice, which was the main reason why the former University
of Santo Tomas sentinel gave up his career.
The same source also disclosed that David also learned that Ginebra has
no intentions of keeping his services after all and the Gin Kings
quarterback known for his several memorable game-winning baskets decided
to end his nine-year career.
"Ang pagkakaalam ko, wala ng intensiyon ang Ginebra to sign up Bal (David), especially now that Jay-Jay Helterbrand is back in healthy condition," said
the source.
David joined the league in 1996, as he and 6-9 center Marlou Aquino quickly transformed Ginebra into a title contender.
Their inclusion to the Robert Jaworski-mentored squad propelled the Gin Kings
to two finals stint in their first season with the most popular ball club in
the PBA.
David and Aquino won their first championship in their sophomore year.
David has reportedly flown the country last weekend to go to the United States
and work there.
David isn't the only one leaving Ginebra.
Estong Ballesteros, James Wallkvist and Aries Dimauna-han are reportedly
searching for others teams at this juncture.
The contract of these three players has ended last July 15.
The 6-3 Ballesteros has been a journeyman in the PBA, playing for Shell,
Coca-Cola and Ginebra.
It was with Coca-Cola where Ballesteros had his finest moments, winning two championships there.
Dimaunahan, on the other hand, is reportedly being eyed by one team -- FedEx.
In need of a dependable guard, FedEx has a room reserved for Dimaunahan
since Chito Victolero's contract with the Express has expired.
Meanwhile, FedEx has his eyes set on Anthony Washington and Mac Cardona in
the annual PBA draft.
Washington, a 6-7 forward from Welcoat, is expected to land as the No.1
overall pick since FedEx lacks a dominant big man.
But Cardona is also hard to pass up.
A scoring champion in the UAAP, Cardona can give the Express additional
firepower.
With Ren-Ren Ritualo having a breakout season with the Express and Wesley
Gonzales finally coming out of his shell, Cardona's addition could make
FedEx solid on the wings.
Cardona is also tailor-made for the Express' system.
FedEx team manager Lito Alvarez is still undecided, who among these two
players they're going to get, but he was quick to assess that he needs
both of them.
"Parehas naming kailangan 'yan," said Alvarez. "Right now, we're studying
our options very well."
"We are also seriously considering to add Dimaunahan if reports are true
that he will no longer sign up with Ginebra," he added.
this is a good one:
Meanwhile, Ginebra has to see the formal offers first before considering a
trade involving center Romel Adducul.
Talks have been rife FedEx and Purefoods are willing to trade for Adducul,
but it seems it is only the Express who have what it takes to pull off a swap.
The Air21 franchise owns three first-round picks in the PBA Rookie Draft set
Aug. 14, including the No. 1 overall.
It has been reported the Express are willing to give up their top pick for a
quality center and even coach Bong Ramos confirmed this.
“Anything is possible,” Ramos said, whose team also owns the picks at Nos.
5 and 7.
Ginebra only gets to pick at No. 8 in the first round and the possibility of acquiring the top overall pick for Adducul and replacing the latter with
Welcoat Paints' 6'7” forward Anthony Washington intrigues Kings team manager
Caidic.
“Siyempre, sa mga usapan, Washington ang dapat kunin at No. 1,” Caidic said.

eto.. irita:
oh God! help Ginebra to be enlightened that the decisions that they
made will be for the better for the team.
I think.. for me ah.. it would be better to retain all the players
(excep egay) so that there will be less adjustments. why? because..
if new players come.. they wil have to adjust to coach siot's system.
and so does the team. if we retain the current players, the team
will no longer need to make major adjustments.. especially the line-up
and the game plans. that's it.. but.. if it's for the "deepening" of
the bench.. i'll accept the management's decision.
